We offer private art tuition for adults in the working studio of professional artist Nick Malone.
One-to-one tuition can be tailored to your interests and abilities, whether you’re a complete beginner to drawing and painting looking for a new pastime, a more advanced artist looking to develop an individual style or considering a creative career change and would like mentoring to become a professional artist.
We start by talking about what you'd like to get out of your private tuition session and your journey in reaching this point. This is incredibly important for helping you get the most out of your tuition session and help our art tutor understand your interests.
We tailor the art classes to your own specific interests. Watercolour, acrylic or oil painting, drawing, abstract art, landscapes and portraits, for example. Don't worry if you're not sure what you'd like to learn, we can start with a general overview of the basic principles of drawing and painting
We teach you techniques in your chosen area of interest suited to your level of ability. You will also learn how to progress your ideas creatively, put meaning into your artwork and find sources of inspiration. We will develop those qualities unique to you and help you find your own personal style of art practice. We will encourage you to relate your drawing and painting to the wider world of contemporary art practice, and look at artists who work in a similar way to you.
Being in a creative environment is incredibly important. The studio is located in a Victorian propeller factory with high ceilings and large windows, and you will be surrounded by work in progress, giving you the opportunity to gain an insight into how paintings can be developed.
The studio offers all the materials and equipment you need to fully realise your creative potential. We normally work on paper in the sessions, but if you’d prefer to work on canvas do please bring one along.
If you can’t visit the London studio, online art tuition is also available.
Sessions can also be arranged at London galleries such as Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the Royal Academy of Arts, the National Gallery or the National Portrait Gallery. These are ideal if you’d like to develop your knowledge of art history and place your own work within the contemporary art cannon.
